Timeline List View¶
The timeline list is the main browsing view. It groups entries by year and shows each entry as a card with a type icon, title, date, preview, and optional tags.

Year Groups¶
Entries are grouped under year headings. You can expand or collapse a year group with its header.
When the list contains entries and no search text is active, the right side of the page shows global expand and collapse buttons:
Expand All: opens every year group.Collapse All: closes every year group.
Right-click a year header to delete all entries from that year. Lifebook asks for confirmation before removing them.
Entry Cards¶
Each card shows:
- Type icon
- Title, when the entry has one
- Date
- Entry preview
- Tags, when the filter column is visible or when tags matched the current search
Entry previews differ by type:
- Text entries show a text teaser.
- Image entries show a thumbnail and optional caption.
- Video entries show a preview image and compact player.
- Audio entries show a compact audio player.
- Photo albums show a row of thumbnails.
Select a card to open it in the overlay view. Press Enter while an entry is selected to open it with the keyboard.
Hover Actions¶
When you hover over a card, small action buttons appear:
- Expand or collapse the card preview, when that entry can be expanded.
- Show the entry in the calendar.
- Edit the entry.
- Delete the entry.
Text entries can expand to show more text in the list. Photo albums can expand to show more album content.
Context Menu¶
Right-click an entry card to open the context menu.
Available actions can include:
EditShow In CalendarMove to CollectionDelete
Move to Collection appears when there is a compatible photo album available. Moving a collection into another collection transfers its contents.
Tags on Cards¶
When tags are visible, selecting a tag on a card opens the filter column and filters the list by that tag. This is a quick way to see all entries connected to the same topic.
Sticky Year Header¶
While scrolling down the list, Lifebook can show the current year at the top as a sticky header. This helps you keep your place in a long timeline.
Scrolling¶
The list supports mouse wheel scrolling and keyboard scrolling:
Home: top of listEnd: bottom of listPageUp: one page upPageDown: one page down
Sorting¶
Use the sort button in the main menu to toggle the timeline between newest-first and oldest-first order.
Search Results in the List¶
When a search is active:
- Matching title and text content is highlighted.
- Matching tags can be shown on entry cards.
- Year groups containing matching entries are expanded.
- The search box shows the number of results.
