Overlay View

The overlay is the full entry view. It opens above the main screen when you select an entry in the list or calendar.

The overlay focuses on one entry while keeping navigation and entry actions nearby.

Open the overlay by selecting an entry card, a calendar entry, or an album item.

Close it with:

  • The close button in the upper-right corner.
  • Escape.
  • Clicking outside the content area when no edit action is blocking close.

If the entry has unsaved edits, Lifebook asks whether to save, discard, or continue editing.

The overlay includes:

  • Main content area
  • Entry title and short date at the top
  • Previous and next entry buttons on the left
  • Optional sidebar on the right
  • Close button

  • Edit button
  • Add to collection button, when available
  • Convert or add collection assets button, when available

Use the up and down buttons on the left side of the overlay to move to the previous or next visible timeline entry.

Keyboard:

  • Up: previous visible entry
  • Down: next visible entry

If the current entry belongs to the filtered result set, navigation follows that visible list.

  • Progress slider
  • Elapsed time
  • Remaining time

The main menu also shows global play/pause and mute controls while media is active.

Audio entries use the same extended media player, with an audio preview panel. The controls are the same as for video.

Photo Albums

Photo albums show image and video thumbnails in a grid. Select an item to open it from the album.

In edit mode, the album supports additional collection tools. See Photo Albums and Collections.

Missing Files

If Lifebook cannot find the original file, the overlay shows a recovery message.

For single files:

  • Search File: choose the file at its new location.
  • Delete entry: remove the broken entry from Lifebook.

For collection folders:

  • Search Folder: choose the folder at its new location.
  • Delete entry: remove the broken collection from Lifebook.

See Troubleshooting.

Tags in the Overlay

Selecting a tag in read mode closes the overlay, opens list view if needed, opens the filter column, and filters the list by that tag.

In edit mode, tags can be removed directly or added with the Add Tag dialog.
