Edit Mode

Edit mode lets you change an existing entry or finish creating a new one.

You can enter edit mode from:

  • The edit button on an entry card.
  • The entry context menu.
  • The edit button in the overlay sidebar.
  • Ctrl+E while the overlay sidebar is visible.
  • Double-clicking the title, date, caption, or text content in the overlay.

Edit mode changes the sidebar into form fields and shows save/cancel controls.

Saving and Canceling

Use:

  • Ok: save changes.
  • Cancel: leave edit mode without saving.
  • Ctrl+S: save.
  • Enter: save when focus is in a single-line edit field.
  • Escape: cancel edit mode or close the active nested dialog.

If you try to leave with unsaved changes, Lifebook asks whether to save changes.

Entries cannot be saved without a title.

Title

The title appears in the list, calendar, overlay, search results, and exported documents.

When adding a file, Lifebook uses the file name as a title unless you entered your own title first.

Date

The date controls where the entry appears in the list and calendar.

In edit mode, change it with the date picker. Pressing Escape while the date picker text box has focus reverts the date edit and returns focus to the title field.

Caption

The caption is optional. It appears in the overlay sidebar and, for image entries, can also appear in list previews.

Empty captions show an Edit caption placeholder while editing.

Text Content

Text entries have an editable content area. It supports multiple lines.

Double-clicking a text entry in read mode starts editing and places the cursor in the content.

Tags

Use Add Tag in edit mode to open the tag dialog.

In the tag dialog you can:

  • Type a new tag name and select the plus button.
  • Choose an existing tag from the list.
  • Remove tags from the pending Added Tags area.
  • Select Ok to apply tags to the entry.
  • Select Cancel or close the dialog to discard pending tag changes.

Tags already on the entry are hidden from the existing-tag list so they are not added twice.

In edit mode, existing tag chips on the entry become remove buttons.

Images

Image entries can be rotated right. Rotation affects the overlay, list thumbnail, and collection thumbnail.

Media Entries

Audio and video entries can have their title, date, caption, and tags edited like other entries.

Playback shortcuts are disabled while editing so typing remains predictable.

Photo Albums

In album edit mode you can:

  • Remove an item from the album.
  • Drag album items to reorder them.
  • Add files to an existing album.
  • Save the updated album.

When an album becomes empty, Lifebook can ask whether the collection should be removed.

Add to Collection

When an entry can be moved into a collection, the overlay shows Add To Collection.

The dialog lets you:

  • Create a new collection by entering a collection title and selecting the plus button.
  • Select an existing collection.

After moving the entry, Lifebook opens the target collection.

Convert to Collection or Add Files

For a single image or video, Lifebook can add more image/video files and convert the entry into a collection. For an existing album, the same action adds files to that album.

The file picker accepts images and videos for this action.

Canceling a New Entry

When adding a new entry, canceling has additional safeguards:

  • If you typed text and then switched to another entry type, Lifebook asks whether to continue editing that text.
  • If the new entry has unsaved title, caption, content, selected file, or tags, Lifebook asks whether to save changes.
  • If a temporary album was imported for a new entry and you cancel, Lifebook removes that temporary album.
